☳ Ongoing Projects

This research project is part of my doctoral thesis and explores the effects of a multicomponent physical exercise programme on cognitive function and the glymphatic system in individuals with Mild Cognitive Impairment or Alzheimer’s disease. Designed as a randomised controlled trial, the study combines neuroimaging, cognitive assessments, and sleep analysis to investigate the underlying mechanisms linking physical activity to brain health. The project is funded by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and the Federal District Research Support Foundation (FAPDF).

This research project is linked to my doctoral thesis and investigates the role of the glymphatic system in relation to cognitive decline, sleep disturbances, and biomarkers in individuals with Alzheimer’s disease. Drawing on imaging and health data from the UK Biobank, the study explores whether glymphatic dysfunction contributes to impaired clearance of neurotoxic proteins such as beta-amyloid and tau, and how this may be associated with cognitive impairment and alterations in cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers. The project is currently ongoing and is financially supported by the UK Biobank.
